Transitions

Teaching Notes

Transitions are always uncomfortable because you are moving from the familiar to the unfamiliar. You are excited and nervous at the same time. Going from elementary school to Junior High, or from High School to College/Job are transitions in early life. From being single to married, childless to motherhood, or staff to supervisor are adult transitions. You can navigate transitions smoothly if you are prepared. Here are some transition tips from the Word of God.

  1. When all seems lost, worship.
    1. David was just ejected from fighting along side the Philistines. He and his men returned to Ziklag to find their homes raided, and the women and children kidnapped. He worshipped.  God gave a plan to pursue and recovered all.  He did.
    2. David’s Tabernacle was set up to house the Presence of God. (1Samuel 30)
  2. Make sure your lips and heart are cleansed before proceeding.
    1. Isaiah’s lips were cleansed. He answered the call to be sent out.
    2. Seek a new level of speaking for God. (Isaiah 6)
  3. Repent
    1. John the Baptist called for repentance and the fruit of repentance.
    2. God is starting something new in you. (Matthew 3)
  4. Seek private prayer time with God.
    1. Jesus went to a private place to pray, not in the synagogue.
    2. Shift to a personal source of revelation and prayer.
  5. You must die to the desires of the flesh, be raised by Christ, and allow others to minister to you
    1. Lazarus was raised from the dead. His flesh died. He needed to be unwrapped.
    2. Disciples shifted from watching Jesus to doing the work of Jesus. (John 11)
  6. Without the physical Jesus, you can rise with the Holy Spirit to preach the Kingdom.
    1. After Jesus ascended, the Holy Spirit spoke through the disciples.
    2. Speak forth through the Holy Spirit through tongues with boldness.(Acts 1:9)
  7. Focus on being unified in the Church.
    1. When the disciples were in unity, the Church had peace and victory
    2. Realign your ministry partnerships. (Acts 9:31)
  8. Develop Intense, small group prayer.
    1. The Church was earnestly praying for Peter in jail (intercession).
    2. This calls for a new type of prayer (Acts 12)

    - This is a time of transition for everyone in God’s plan for the earth.
    - We all need to step up to the new level of discipleship.
    - Remember a time you made a difficult transition. Share.
    - With which one of the above do you need help to make transitions smoother for you?
