Strongholds

strongholdsThere is moral wall surrounding us that protects us when it is unbroken.  Sin breaks down the moral wall and gives the devil entrance into our lives.  The root of all strongholds is sin—either committed by you or committed against you.

The devil builds a stronghold or fortress of lies around sin to protect his entrance into our lives.  If he can get us to believe the lies, then we operate under his lies giving him free access to us.  The devil sets strongholds in our lives to keep us from receiving all that God has for us and keeps us from walking in God’s plan for our destiny.

Identify a Stronghold

  • If you are confronted with sin and can easily repent, no stronghold can be built.
  • If you are confronted with sin and can easily know it’s false, no stronghold can be built.
  • If you are confronted with sin and you justify it, or continue in it, chances are you have a stronghold.

Common justifications:

  • Everybody does it.
  • That’s just how I am
  • It’s acceptable today.
  • My whole family is like that.
  • I’m not serious. Just playing. (Don’t play with sin)
  • I couldn’t help it. It just happened.

Common grounds for strongholds:

  • Past hurts
  • Injustices
  • Family practices and traditions
  • Misunderstanding or misinterpretation of truth.
  • Belief in false facts or “truths”
  • Judgments made in our heart
  • Wordl Views

 How to break strongholds:

  1. What is the fruit? (I frequently use words to convey mocking or contempt, sarcastic remarks.)
  2. What is the root? (I feel threatened, so believe I have to strike with words.)
  3. Repent or confess & Forgive (Confess & repent of using word to strike others. Forgive those who have been sarcastic with me.)
  4. Renounce and Break bondage (I renounce sarcasm and break its hold over me.)
  5. Bless. Replace the lie with truth of the Word.(I will let my words be yes or no. I will keep my tongue from evil speaking to remain in the presence of the Lord.)
