Belief in someone means you accept what they say as truth. Jesus said “Believe in me.” He wants you to believe in what he says he will be and do, then watch him come through.

Unbelief is seeing the evidence but refusing to believe. The teachers of the law saw Jesus do the miracles but they still would not believe he was from God. They refused to believe what they were witnessing. If you refuse to believe the sun will rise tomorrow morning after you have seen it happen for many days in your life, you are in unbelief.

Disbelief is witnessing something that was unheard of and there was no prior evidence of it in the past. The people were in disbelief when they saw the dead rise and Jesus appeared to them after his crucifixion. That was an outrageous phenomenon they had never heard of or witnessed before.

The disciples, however, heard the resurrection account from Mary Magdalene and refused to believe her. They experienced hanging out with Mary for three years and knew she was a bonafide witness among their party. Yet they refused to believe her. Jesus rebuked them for their unbelief.
